The Story of our Logo... 

Our logo takes the form of a turtle petroform (comprised of 13 stones), derived from the traditional turtle-shaped stone circles and fire pits built by our Anishinaabe peoples. The turtle has great significance for indigenous people all around the world—many tribal creation stories say that earth was born on the back of a turtle. We feel that the "joining together" of separate entities to form a meaningful whole is particularly fitting for the concept behind FirstPlan Benefits—together we are stronger.

Many of our people have been taught as children to examine the segments on the back of a turtle. Every turtle shell has 13 large segments which represent the 13 moons that make up the lunar year. If you count the smaller segments along the lower edge of the shell you'll find there are 28, one for each of the 28 days between new moons.
